Un Bricoler presents the Brazilian artist Mateus Dantas to the Romanian public, leading a journey through musical Brazil and its rhythmic joy, reinvented from the perspective of contemporary art.
With a repertoire that mixes authorial songs and classics of Brazilian music, Un Bricoler proposes an experience that transits between the dancing and the thinking, traditional and electronic pop art: A celebration of the human being-nature, sharing and love of life.
On this journey, Un Bricoler will count with the talent of Juan Carlos Negretti and Lucian Zbarcea.
Mateus Dantas is Graduated in Musical Composition and Master in Ethnomusicology and since 1997 he has been working in Brazil as a director, producer, composer and performer in the field of music.
Researcher of the work of Walter Smetak (1913-1984),, in 2008 he began to dedicate himself to the practice of creating and building musical instruments, sculptures and sound installations, using discarded objects found on the streets, coordinating workshops on the creation and construction of musical instruments/sound sculptures.
He co-directed, composed the musical score and acted in the feature documentary Smetak (2018), when he carried out his first experiments with guitars played by the wind.
He currently lives in Bucharest, Romania, developing his own projects as well as collaborating on proposals from other artists, having participated in the maGma Residency artistic residency (Romania, 2022), collaborating with the portuguese artists Janis Dellarte and Vania Rovisco.
With music and architecture at the centre of his concerns and with over 20 years of experience as a percussionist and drummer, Juan Carlos Negretti can be described as an architect of rhythms. In his playful and eclectic playing style, the listener will notice native Afro-Caribbean influences blending with Balkan and Oriental ones, along with an openness towards the experimental.
Lucian Zbarcea: „I am a musician. Sometimes I am a composer. Other times a performer. I love all traditional and folk music. I dedicated my last 16 years of life to the study and teaching of Indonesian traditional music (gamelan).”
